Congratulations to all those working to improve sustainability at Corpus. We are delighted that our efforts to make the college a more sustainable place to live and work have been recognised in the Vice Chancellor’s Awards for Environmental Sustainability 2023. The Awards are a celebration of the exceptional contributions of staff and students advancing environmental sustainability in the collegiate university, and the contributions of the University community towards its strategic environmental goals of net zero carbon and biodiversity net gain by 2035.

Corpus is proud to be one of only six colleges to be accredited with a Gold Award in the Green Impact Awards category. Our submission highlighted the work we are doing to reduce energy use, our EcoSync radiator valves and our efforts to reduce waste.

On hearing the news, the Bursar Nick Melhuish said: “I am extremely proud of everyone who has contributed to this award and a big 'well done' to all of you. It is the culmination of a whole series of actions to tackle the College’s environmental impact and importantly has involved both students and staff. Typically, Corpus is focusing on a plethora of smaller but tangible actions which taken together have a significant effect on our carbon footprint and on our overall environmental impact.”

The College's Sustainability Coordinator Peter Nitsche-Whitfield says: “Thank you to our amazing team of student volunteers, without whom this achievement would not have been possible. Sustainability is integral to Corpus’ DNA, as shown by achieving a Gold Award in our first submission."

Personal congratulations are also due to Peter for receiving a personal nomination in the Environmental Sustainability Staff Awards category. Peter’s citation says: “Peter Nitsche-Whitfield began his post in September 2022, becoming the first ever college staff with a role solely dedicated to sustainability. In the short amount of time he has been in post, Peter has had a significant impact from calculating carbon footprints to driving Green Impact accreditation and engagement amongst staff and students.”
