Professional and musical development

Our Senior and Junior Organ Scholars take the lead in directing the choir and developing the music, gaining hands-on experience of directing and managing a busy choral programme.

To support them, they receive supervision, mentoring and professional guidance from experienced choir director, organist and musicologist Dr Katharine Pardee, the College Lecturer and Advisor in Music. She provides organ tuition and teaches and directs studies for any Organ Scholar reading Music.

The scholars also receive liturgical guidance and support from our experienced Chaplain, Canon Maltby.

Academic development

The Chapel schedule includes about 12 sung services per term: eight Sundays, two or three additional sung mid-week services, and two short Compline services, as well as a termly opportunity to sing Evensong at the Cathedral.

While this gives Organ Scholars scope to develop a challenging musical programme, it also leaves them the space to focus on their degree course in Music or another academic subject.
