Congratulations to the Corpus Christi women’s rugby team who won the 2024 rugby cuppers on 4 May. Taking on Worcester in an exciting encounter in front of a large vocal crowd, Corpus ran out winners by 22 points to 14. Captain Stephanie Dai won the ‘Player of the Match’ Award for her work rate, making a vast number of tackles and positive carries.
This triumph comes at the end of a season in which the Corpus women have remained undefeated.
Legend has it that both the Cuppers trophy and the POTM trophy were seen at Corpus Ball that evening.
Following its most successful season in years, the Corpus men’s team are also to be congratulated for reaching the Bowl final, which turned out to be a nail-biting match against Exeter/Univ/Trinity. Corpus was in the lead 15-10 with just under five minutes to go but the score turned 15-15 as the clock turned red and the fate of the Bowl trophy lay in the hands of the Univ kicker who slotted home a conversion as time was called. The match ended with a score of 15-17.
Captain Theo Coney says: “It has been an honour to have captained an outstanding group of young men who all showed the effort and dedication that was asked of them. I am proud to have represented the College for my three years as an undergraduate and I could not be prouder of the Women who brought home a second Cuppers trophy in three years. A bittersweet day, but a day to be mightily proud of.”
