Associate Professorship/Professorship of Ancient History and Tutorial Fellowship in Ancient History

The Faculty of Classics at the University of Oxford, seeks to appoint an Associate Professor/Professor in Ancient History (Greek), with effect from 1 September 2018.  This post will be held in association with a Tutorial Fellowship at Corpus Christi College, Oxford.

The appointment will be a permanent post (after initial probation).  The total university and college stipend is on the scale £46,336 - £62,219 p.a., plus allowances (including housing allowance of £12,344). Additional salary of £2,700 p.a. will apply if awarded the title of Professor.  The appointment will be pensionable under the USS scheme.

The successful candidate must have an internationally outstanding research record, appropriate to their career stage, in any aspect of the history of the Ancient Greek World, and be able to provide a high standard of research-led teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. They should have the capacity to teach across the whole range of Ancient Greek History papers which include Greek History in the following broad period 650 – 336, World of Homer and Hesiod, Thucydides and the West, Aristophanes’ political comedy, Athenian Democracy, Alexander the Great & his Early Successors and the Hellenistic World.They should also have the ability and willingness to undertake administrative duties, and evidence of good interpersonal and organisational skills are essential.

The appointee will be based at the Faculty of Classics, 66 St Giles, Oxford OX1 3LU and Corpus Christi College, Oxford, OX1 4JF
