Derbyshire Outreach Trip

The College's Outreach Officer, Brendan Shepherd, has recently undertaken a trip around six Derbyshire schools in association with his counterpart from Murray Edwards College, Cambridge (Catherine Rowley). Across four days Brendan spoke to around 175 students from various year groups ranging from Year 10 to Year 12.

The schools visited were Queen Elizabeth's Grammar School (Ashbourne), Swanwick Hall (Swanwick), Amber Valley Sixth Form (Ripley), Hasland Hall (Chesterfield), St Mary's (Chesterfield), and Lady Manners (Bakewell). This trip was undertaken as part of the College's commitment to outreach and widening participation work in Derbyshire, about which more can be read on ourĀ Working with Schools page. Going on a trip such as this with a colleague from Cambridge allowed for a greater coverage of content with students, and a development of some new schools contacts.

One teacher commented that his Year 10 students were 'very enthused' following the visit, whilst another wrote afterwards to say 'what great input, thank you so much... I know you have inspired our students'.
