Annual Tortoise Fair

28th May 2017: one day of fundraising, and one chance at glory for the college tortoises of Oxford. It was time for the Tortoise Fair once again.

The weather, despite a gloomy forecast, was beautiful, and over 1000 people gathered to relax, take in the beautiful surroundings and help raise some money for charity. This year, the incredible £5102.42 we took in will be going to Rory’s Well, who endeavour to provide clean drinking water to desperate communities in Sierra Leone.

The amount raised wasn’t the only record breaking figure, with 11 tortoises coming to take part in the race, but only one could be victor (Zoom, representing Worcester). Our beloved tortoise Foxe was sadly disqualified due to bad behaviour, and it is safe to say he will be seeking revenge next year.

A massive thank you goes to everyone involved in the fair, from the live music kindly provided by Corpus talents such as our choir, and Cameron Lonie and Jemimah Taylor, to the fantastic sets given by the Society of Oxford Ukelele Players and Worcester Swing Band–and I can't forget all the helpers and visitors on the day!
