Professor Nicole Grobert holds a Royal Society University Research Fellowship and came to Corpus in April 2008. Her research focuses on establishing ‘Growth systematics for the controlled generation of nanostructured materials'. She is among the few young researchers who are awarded two Royal Society Research Fellowships. In 2001, Nicole received the international Pergamon Prize for her thesis on ‘Novel Carbon Nanostructures'. The Pergamon Prize is awarded every three years to scientists to have made the most significant contribution to carbon research. Most recently Nicole has  been awarded a Royal Society Industry Fellowship to work with Williams Advanced Engineering, part of the Williams group of companies that includes the WILLIAMS MARTINI RACING Formula One team. In doing so, she has become the first person to hold all three the Royal Society Industry, University Research and the Dorothy Hodgkin Fellowship.To date, Nicole has more than 110 papers in refereed journals including Nature, Science, Physical Review Letters and Advanced Materials. Nicole teaches and supervises several student projects at undergraduate and graduate level.

In October 2008, she was selected as one of two ‘Future Leaders' representing Europe at the Science and Technology in Society Forum. Cooperating with the STS forum, the New York Academy of Sciences invited more than 30 leading research institutions from around the world to submit their nomination. A group of eight exceptional young scientists representing Asia, North America, Europe and Africa, were selected to be invited to the 2008 STS forum meeting in Kyoto. Prior to that she was invited to present her work at the "Celebrating British Science event that brought together five outstanding individuals from universities and research institutions across the country. Nicole is an ERC Starting Grant Awardee and she secured significant amounts of funding for research and science outreach and Science in Society activities from the European Commission, The Royal Society, the EPSRC, the John Fell Fund, and world leading industries.

Nicole is the Vice-Chairman of the British Carbon Group and is a Trustee on the Board of the Vega Science Trust. From 2006 to 2008 she was a member of the Royal Society Hooke Committee and currently serves on the Royal Society Rosalind Franklin Committee. She is also involved in Science Policy and is a member of the Royal Society and the Royal Academy of Engineering working group on nanotechnology commissioned by the UK government in July 2003. The report on "Nanoscience and nanotechnologies: opportunities and uncertainties" was published in July 2004). Recently, Nicole was invited twice to speak at the House of Lords Science and Technology Committee and she worked together with PAL LAB on the public understanding of Science on "Nanotechnology: case studies in new technology - societal and ethical implications. Nicole holds an invited membership of the New York Academy of Sciences. Moreover Nicole is a member of the 21st Century's Centre of Excellence Programme on Bioscience and Nanotechnology and she has been a visiting Researcher at Toyo University, Japan, since 2003. In 2007, Nicole was made a Visiting Professor at the same University.

Prof Grobert has also recently been elected to the Chair of the Young Academy of Europe. The YAE is an international, non-governmental association of individual scientists and scholars who are experts and leaders in their respective fields, as recognized by their peers. The YAE 2016 AGM was held at Corpus Christi College, Oxford. Call for Nomination deadlines are 28/29 February, 31 May, 31 August and 30 November of every year.
