Involvement in Chapel

Volunteers are always needed to read lessons and lead intercessions. If you would like to contribute to the life of the Chapel in this way, please contact the Lector, Chapel Wardens or the Chaplain.

Christian Organisations

There are a number of Christian organisations associated with Corpus, reflecting the variety of traditions in the College community and addressing wide areas of interest in prayer, theological study and social justice. Please contact the appropriate representative listed on the Term Card Contact Information to learn more about the Roman Catholic Chaplaincy in Oxford and the Oxford Christian Union.

Charity and Civic Involvement – acting locally and globally

The Oxford Gatehouse

In Michaelmas and Hilary Terms, the Chapel collection and other occasions of fund raising, goes to support the work of the Oxford Gatehouse, a locally-based charity providing food, shelter and company to people who are homeless.

Corpus Chapel has a long association to the Gatehouse supporting its work through prayer, raising money and volunteering.  Over the years many Corpus students have served as volunteers at The Gatehouse, whether up front with guests or in the preparation of food.  The Gatehouse is always in need of people who can commit just a few hours a month.  More information is available on their website, Information about how to become involved with The Gatehouse and other local voluntary organisations is also available from the Chaplain.

Christian Aid

Every Trinity Term, joining in with the annual Christian Aid Week every May, our attention is focused on global issues of poverty.  We organize a collection each year for the Week itself as well as donating the Chapel collection for the term.

Christian Aid was set up, and is sponsored by, an ecumenical range of UK churches and its work is motivated by a vision that social justice is core to the Christian Gospel; but the money it raises goes to where it is needed, working in partnership with local people, regardless of nationality or faith.  It is one of the UK’s most respected relief and develop agencies.

Corpus has an impressive record and although we are one of the smallest colleges, we are usually one of the largest collegiate fund raisers in the University.  See recent Chapel cards for details.  More details about its work can be found here
